Great Movies That Deserved Better Than Their Terrible Acting

Sofia Coppola - The Godfather III

Co-written, produced, and directed by her father, Francis Ford Coppola, Sofia Coppola portrayed Mary Corleone, Vincent Corleone’s love interest in the 1990 finale of the legendary The Godfather trilogy. Roger Ebert’s colleague, Gene Siskel, overall gave the film high marks but specifically mentioned Sofia as a moot aspect of the film. “[Another] problem is the casting of Sofia Coppola, who is out of her acting league here. She’s supposed to be Andy Garcia’s love interest but no sparks fly. He’s more like her babysitter.” Film critic Leonard Maltin even noted that Sofia was the film’s “almost-fatal flaw.” In 1990, Sofia earned the “Worst Supporting Actress” and “Worst New Star” Golden Raspberry Awards, essentially ending her film career.
