Great Movies That Deserved Better Than Their Terrible Acting

Katie Holmes - Batman Begins

Writer David S. Goyer and co-writer/director, Christopher Nolan, sought to bring a realistic, darker, and more emotionally engaging interpretation of Bruce Wayne and Batman to the big screen. This was especially welcome after many lackluster attempts during the 90s. Interestingly, actress Katie Holmes was cast as Batman’s love interest, Rachel Dawes. Nolan selected Holmes for her “tremendous warmth and great emotional appeal… she has a maturity beyond her years that comes across in the film and is essential to the idea that Rachel is something of a moral conscience for Bruce”. Oddly, writer James Berardinelli complained of the lacking romantic chemistry between Holmes and Bale, the latter receiving great critical acclaim for his performance of Wayne/Batman.
