Gansbaai Beach

South Africa’s Gansbaai Beach is a gorgeous beach… it’s also incredibly dangerous. The area is known colloquially as “shark alley” due to the thousands of sharks who descend on the area to hunt the 60,000+ sea lions who migrate to the area from April through September each year.

For decades, France’s Reunion Island was a haven for surfers from across Europe. However, a series of shark attacks (that began with 6 in 2011) completely decimated the surfing scene, and in-turn the local economy.
